The Sleepy Lagoon Orchestra at the Goodwood Festival of Speed July 2022
Keeley is a recent graduate of the University of Chichester Conservatoire with BMus (hons) Music Performance, studying with Liz Meyer (flute) and Spence Bundy (saxophone and clarinet). At the university, she regularly performed with the Sleepy Lagoon Orchestra under Simon Growcott, performing many high-profile events including the Goodwood Revival Ball 2021 and 2022 and the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2021 and 2022. With the Spectre Orchestra under James Lelean, she notably premiered Bob Christianson’s A Christmas Carol the Concert in the UK in December 2021 and toured with the same show in December 2022.
Keeley started her musical career when she was 9, learning the flute at school, at 11 she started the saxophone and then at 17, the clarinet. Since then, she has also dabbled with the oboe and piano. For three years, she attended Junior Trinity, studying under Thea Cramp and Nicola Baigent, where she become a highly involved member of the orchestral and chamber departments.
As a multi-reed player, Keeley plays the full range of flutes, saxophones and clarinets, from the piccolo to the bari sax and bass clarinet! In summer 2023, Keeley was part of the National Youth Music Theatre, playing on Kiss Me Kate (Curve Theatre, Leicester) on reed 4 (flute 1, piccolo, clarinet, soprano sax & tenor sax) and NYMT in concert “When I Grow Up” (Rose Theatre, Kingston & Southwark Playhouse, Elephant) on reed 2 (flute, piccolo, clarinet & tenor sax). Other shows include Follies (reed 5 – flute, clarinet, bari sax & bass clarinet), Fiddler on the Roof (woodwind 1 – flute & alto flute), Guys and Dolls (reed 2 – flute, clarinet, alto sax & guiro) and Oliver! (woodwind 1 – flute, piccolo & recorders)
Throughout the year, Keeley regularly plays with the Lewes Music Group, as the bari sax player for the Lewes Big Band and as a saxophonist/reed player for Jukebox 1264. With these groups, Keeley has played music varying from classic big band tunes to Billy Joel and The Beatles to Pete Long’s Jazz Planets.
